Peter Angelos Writes Revisionist History (From Oriole Magic)

Been a busy morning in these parts, but I was reading the Baltimore Sun just now and apparently, Peter Angelos wants the Washington Nationals to succeed and he thinks the attendance at Oriole Park is lacking, um, because of the weather!

In addition, he's all for us Oriole fans catching the occasional game in Washington.

I wish I had the money and power to write revisionist history; however, most of us know better than to believe the assertions of Peter Angelos. I don't think he's a bad guy, and I have all belief that Angelos bought the team thinking he could make it better and bring a Championship back to Baltimore.

How things have not worked out.

"There's no law against visiting the other franchise," Angelos said in an interview with The Sun. "One's a National League city and one's an American League city."

Angelos had once argued the region couldn't support two franchises.

"Originally, I said [Wa! shington and Baltimore] were very close to each other," Angelos said. "But nonetheless, it is the nation's capital, and the team is there, and it ought to be supported, and hopefully, both franchises will provide successful baseball."

Really. I guess this is where your lawyer skills come in handy. We're you not against the move of the Expos to Washington and did you not fight tooth and nail to stop it?

Former Reds' GM Wayne Krivsky Named To The Front Office...

The Orioles have added another member to the front office...
ORIOLES NAME WAYNE KRIVSKY SPECIAL ASSISTANT
TO THE PRESIDENT OF BASEBALL OPERATIONS

The Orioles today announced that they have named WAYNE KRIVSKY as Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations. The former Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Cincinnati Reds brings over 30 years of experience in baseball operations to the organization and will be involved in all aspects of the Orioles' major league operations, including scouting, contracts and other baseball administration responsibilities.

Krivsky's th! ree decades of experience include nearly 27 seasons as an assistant or special assistant to general managers in the Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins and New York Mets organizations, with scouting and player evaluation experience at all levels of development.

Krivsky most recently served as special assistant to Mets General Manager Omar Minaya during the 2008 season. Prior to that role, he spent over two years as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Cincinnati Reds.

As General Manager of the Reds, Krivsky was responsible for the acquisition of some of the team's best young players. He signed pitcher JARED BURTON and outfielder JOSH HAMILTON through the 2006 Rule 5 draft and acquired second baseman BRANDON PHILLIPS from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later in April 2006 and infielder JEFF KEPPINGER from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for a minor league pitcher in January 2007. Krivsky then sent Hamilton to the! Rangers in exchange for 2008 All-Star pitcher EDINSON VOLQUEZ! and pit cher DANNY HERRERA in December 2007.

The 54-year-old began his baseball career in January 1977 in the ticket department of the Rangers, moving to the Baseball Operations department two years later as assistant director of player development and scouting. He was promoted to assistant general manager in October 1980 and served in that capacity for Texas until he was hired by the Twins in December 1994 as special assistant to general manager Terry Ryan. He became assistant general manager for Minnesota in November 1998 and spent over eight years in that position before he was hired in February 2006 as the Reds' General Manager.

Krivsky was born in Niagara Falls, New York and is a 1972 graduate of New Canaan (CT) High School. He attended Duke University, where he played baseball for three seasons and earned a degree in management science in 1976.
Now, Krivsky -- who had some hits and misses as the former GM of the Reds -- has nearly three decade! s of experience in Major League Baseball.

I don't know a lot about him aside from what I have seen from the media and some Reds blogs, but his knowledge might serve some value to MacPhail, especially on the scouting and talent side.

It Looks Baltimore's Opponent Will Be Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship...

It looks like the Ravens will be taking on their archrivals, the Steelers, in the AFC Championship next weekend.

Pittsburgh will host the game, and after what happened in week 25, you can bet Baltimore will be gunning for revenge.

The Steelers advanced to their fourth AFC Championship Game in the last 10 seasons, as they beat the San Diego Chargers in a snow-filled game, 35-24.

I'm sure this will be the game of the season for many fans, unless the Ravens reach their dream destination -- the Super Bowl. If you want to head out there, WNST is having another bus trip out the! re for those of you have the money and undying love for the purple and black.

I'm a 'Skins fan; however, I and a lot of Washington fans have our support behind Baltimore.

Brian Roberts, Looking Ahead & Does He Stay in Baltimore?

For Oriole fans, Brian Roberts is a name synonymous with hard work, hustle and being of one of best lead off men in baseball. That being said, right now we all know that the second baseman is in final year of his current contract in Baltimore, and question now is will he remain a part of Birdland?

After the 2008 season, I would have said he would be traded before Spring Training; however, now the answer is no.

In the past few weeks, Brian Roberts has shown a willingness to stay in Baltimore as his representation and the Oriole front office along with Andy McPhail are actively working to extend his deal. He has said over and over that he would not be willing to have contract discussions after a certain point in Spring Training to focus on baseball. Considering the market for players and the economy, Bri! an may find it in his best interest to stay in Baltimore.

A Few Moves Made...

The Orioles had a day off of Grapefruit League action; however, there was work to be done as there was an intrasquad game played to make up for the rainouts and get guys on the field. Well, the news of the day came about due to some roster moves announced, and one pitcher who was told he will be in the bullpen rather than start games for the team in 2009 (at least for now).

The Baltimore Sun: The Orioles have sent out eight players today. Pitchers Bob McCrory, Kam Mickolio and Chris Waters were optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Non-roster players Justin Turner, Justin Christian, John Parrish, Brad Hennessey and Donnie Murphy were reassigned to the minor league facility in Sarasota, Fla.

The only guy who really left an impression on when I saw him play was Turner, and I'm sure if he keeps up his play in camp on the other side of Florida, he'll find work. Um, the rest of the guys above didn't leave much of an impression at all -- then aga! in, we also didn't see much of Parrish or Hennessey (injuries).

Hernandez Leads the Way, Huff Homers, O's Win Against Angels, 6-4

The Orioles snapped a two game skid as they won against the Angels, 6-4, out in Anaheim last night. Rookie David Hernandez showed himself to be major-league worthy as he kept the Los Angeles lineup -- one of the better in baseball -- at bay as he went 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits. Hernandez was not perfect in any sense of the word, but his teammates gave up a him comfortable lead and he did his job by keeping runs off the board along with preserving the lead for Baltimore. George Sherill got the save -- his 18th of the season.

The Baltimore offense came al! ive on Friday they took advantage of a shaky Ervin Santana -- who started the game for Los Angeles -- and did all their scoring before the fifth inning. Luke Scott had a two-RBI double in the 1st inning, and the Aubrey Huff had a three run homer in the third inning (his 11th) to put Baltimore up 5-0. Nick Marakis raised the score 6-0 after a RBI-single that plated Brian Roberts.

Trying to Stomach a Possible Phillies-Yankees World Series

If there's a Phillies-Yankees World Series, I can't the stomach the fact both those teams are in it. Really, because I hate everything about Philadelphia sports, I have to commit heresy and root for the Yankees.

There, I said it.

It looks like the sands of the hourglass is quickly coming down the Dodgers season. When George Sherrill is pitching in relief during the 4th inning, you're desperate. It makes it even worse that he hit Shane Victorino -- who conveniently didn't move out of the way -- with the bases loaded.

Avery Set To Become Nightclub Owner

According to CBC:

Hockey player, super pest, fashionista and now … bar owner?

New York Rangers forward and former Vogue intern Sean Avery is once again expanding the skills section of his resume, this time by venturing into sharing ownership duties at a new nightspot in Tribeca, a neighbourhood in lower Manhattan.

Reports indicate the most "hated man in hockey" and Rangers fan favourite will partner with club owner Matt Abramcyk and Chris Miller, a former art dealer, to open Warren 77, a bar and ! restaurant at 77 Warren St.

Abramcyk has described the new nightspot as a "sports bar meets country club" with a vintage sports theme.

Abramcyk also runs the Tribeca bar, Smith and Mills, which is where he met Avery.

Rangers Sign Swiss Forward Andres Ambuhl

According to NewYorkRangers.com:

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent forward Andres Ambuhl.

Ambuhl, 25, skated in 50 games with HC Davos of the National League A in Switzerland (NLA) this past season, registering 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points, along with 90 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in games played (50), goals! (17), assists (24), points (41), and penalty minutes (90).

Ambuhl tied for the team lead in scoring and assists, while he finished fourth on the club in goals. In addition, he collected four goals and three assists for seven points in 21 postseason contests, including two goals in the NLA Finals series against the Kloten Flyers to help HC Davos win their fourth NLA championship in the last eight years.

The 5-10, 190-pounder has appeared in 358 career NLA games with HC Davos, recording 64 goals and 108 assists for 172 points, along with 425 penalty minutes.

In 2006, he helped HC Davos capture the Spengler Cup, collecting the game-winning goal in the final game vs. Team Canada. Ambuhl has also skated in 112 career postseason games, registering 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points, including a career-high, five goals and eight points in 13 playoff contests during the 2008 playoffs.

Internationally, Ambuhl has represented Switzerlan! d in several tournaments, including the 2006 Winter Olympics i! n Torino , Italy.

If you are doing a search for him on the internet, you may have a problem finding what you are looking for unless you spell his name "Andres Ambühl"

Or, if you want to see some of his career stats, take a look over at EuroHockey.net

The Rangers certainly need help scoring goals, but chances are this isn't the answer - at least not next season. It's very likely that Ambuhl will start the season in Hartford, if he does in fact play in North America next season.

Rangers Tickets Available Already

Want to make sure that you get to see the games of your choice this season? Well, tickets are already available on Stubhub. When I checked this morning Preseason tickets were available for as little as $13 a ticket and individual regular season tickets were available for as little as $49 a ticket. Want season tickets, but are still on the Rangers waiting list? They are also available here.

Other sites to check out for tickets RazorGator, TicketsNow and TickCo.

The Official Rangers TicketExchange also will have plenty of tickets available as we get closer to the season, none are available yet though through that site.

There's plenty of time before the season starts, but sometimes it's just never too early to have those tickets in hands.

Rangers Recall Evgeny Grachev

Update 7pm ET: Looks like a false alarm, according to the NYR pre-game show Callahan will be in the lineup

Well that didn't take long now did it.

According to Ranger Rants:
The Rangers have just recalled forward Evgeny Grachev, 19, from Hartford (AHL) after right wing Ryan Callahan suffered a minor upper-body injury in this morning's skate. The Rangers have listed Callahan, who skates on Chris Drury's second line with Christopher Higgins, as questionable for tonight's game against the Capitals.
It will be interesting to see if Callahan plays or not. If he's not able to go will Tortorella slide Grachev in on the second line where Callahan was playing or will Kotalik get bumped up to play next to Drury and Grachev play on the third line with Anisimov. If I had to guess, I'd say th! at he starts off playing with Anisimov on the third line.

Liga Italia 2009/2010 | Loyalitas Julio Cesar

JulioCesar

"Saya menyangkal semuanya. Saya masih memiliki kontrak dengan Inter," tukasnya.

Tottenham Get Their Way

By Jaymes Payten-Marsh
For THBN

After all the haggling and dealing, Tottenham supremo, Daniel Levy, finally walked away from the conference room with his head held high.

Frank Arnesen, Tottenham's Sporting Director, may be heading to Chelsea, but Levy has gained the upper hand. With the two clubs arguing for what seemed an eternity, they finally came to an agreement late on Friday night.

The deal is simple. £6 million poundsstraightt up, with another £100,000 per year for the next 4 years. With Chelsea happy in paying that tidy sum, Levy had to protect his other assets, the players Arnesen brought into the club.

Here are some of the criteria set by Levy:
  • ! No Chelsea representative, be it local or freelance, can have any contact with a Tottenham player whilst still under contract.
  • A fee of £6 million GBP to be paid by 01.07.2005 with an additional 4 yearly payments of £100,000.
  • Arnesen is prohibited to go after any transfer targets Tottenham hlabeledlled as targets within the next 4 weeks.
  • Frank Arnesen's contract with Tottenham Hotspur will be cancelled on 01.09.2005 (after the transfer window closes), and will not be seen with any members of the Chelsea staff, be it local or freelance.
  • Any breach of these terms will result in an official complaint to the F.A. & Premier League and will be followed up with a Civil Case.
  • A copy of this contract will be sent to the appropriate parties at the F.A. & Premier League.

Players like Ziegler, Carrick a! nd the p air signed from Forest, Reid and Dawson, will be off limits to Arnesen or any other Chelsea representative.

If any Tottenham player is caught near a yacht, a posh London home, or seen in a restaurant with anyone slightly connected to Chelsea, then the deal would be broken.

The contract signed between the two parties has also been sent to the Premier League and the F.A. The three points can still be deducted if Chelsea decide to play games.

Arnesen's transfer fee will be used on new players according to a source at White Hart Lane. Hopefully Robinson's call for 3 quality players will be answered.

All new transfers will be conducted by Levy, and Tottenham head-coach, Martin Jol, until a successor to the Dane is drafted in.

Could Keane Go?

Reports from a few fairly respectable newspapers have stated that Robbie Keane is a "definite target for Liverpool FC".

Could we let one our most talented and loyal players leave?

Surely though, a club like Tottenham Hotspur, with all its aspirations of breaking into the Premier Leagues' elit! e four, would do everything in its power to prevent one of, if probably not the most important player at the club, leave to go to one of the clubs' we are trying to dislodge from that sacred fourth spot? With Liverpool making their interest in Keane "public knowledge", I feel that it's only a matter of time before Robbie's heart forces him into action.

A friend of mine (Villa supporter) asked me to put myself in his shoes. If I were a professional footballer playing for another club, and the team I supported (Tottenham Hotspur) came knocking, what would I do?

If I, like Robbie (who is turning 28 next month) was given this opportunity, I would seriously consider it. Being offered a chance to play for the club you support doesn't come around too often. And being offered the chance to play for your boyhood club in the latter stages of your career could mean that the chance won't come knocking again.

A! nother key factor in his decision making process would be his ! family. Robbie and his family have settled in Hertfordshire. Moving them all up to Liverpool on the chance that he will play Champions League football may be asking too much of them.

If Daniel Levy is serious in his attempts to get Tottenham Hotspur playing Champions League football every season, then our board have to act now, and they have to act efficiently if they are to keep a hold of their prized asset and the dream of even possibly winning the Premier League.

If the rumours that Liverpool are offering in the region of £8 million + Crouch, maybe the last word on the matter will lie with Juande Ramos.

Is Keane a "Ramos Player"? Does he fit into the system that Juande will deploy? What we do know is that Juande Ra! mos likes players that can switch positions easily. Robbie Keane is definitely one of those players. Whether he's at White Hart Lane next season is anybody's guess.

Spurs 3-1 Wigan - F.A. Cup Result

Pavlyuchenko scored from the spot when Campbell was brought down in the area just after half time.

Luka Modric rounded up the game by nodding the ball over the line after O'Hara had struck the post with his effort.

Wigan's Olivier Kapo got a late consolation goal but it was too little, too late for the Latics especially after Pavlyuchenko lashed home his second goal from the edge of the area.

Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, Dawson, Bale, Bentley, Modric, Zokora, O'Hara, Bent (injured and replaced by Campbell), Pavlyuchenko.

Subs: Alnwick, Lennon, Ghaly, Gunter, Campbell, Taarabt, Boateng.

Pato Desak Ancelotti Membawanya Ke Chelsea

MILAN - Striker Alexandre Pato mendesak pelatih Carlo Ancelotti membawanya ke Stamford Bridge, markas Chelsea. "Carlo Ancelotti sangat penting bagi saya," kata Pato, seperti dikutip Daily Mail.
"Dialah yang membawa saya ke Milan. Dia membentuk saya sebagai pemain. Saya merasa berhutang banyak kepadanya," lanjut pemain berjuluk The Duck.

Gigli: Milan Semakin Lemah

Milan Masih Boleh Dekati Fabiano

Madrid Tunggu Milan Tawar Huntelaar

Soal Ronaldinho, Leonardo & Berlusconi Berseberangan

Zaccardo Akui Nyaris Gabung Milan

Pato Terancam Absen Hadapi Bari

Toulalan - We need to beat Reds

Fiorentina beat Liverpool 2-0 to move into second in the table behind Lyon, who have won both their opening games.

Toulalan believes Fiorentina's victory has changed the balance in the group and his side will also have to beat the Reds at least once in their two upcoming ties to guarantee progress into the knockout phase.

Toulalan, whose side followed up their narrow 1-0 opening game victory against Fiorentina with a 4-0 thrashing at Debrecen on Tuesday night, told L'Equipe: "It is a shame Fiorentina defeated Liverpool, so it is not necessarily a good night for us.

"I believed Liverpool would have got a good result in Italy. We will have to win at least one match against the Englishmen.

Changed everything
"That result has quite changed everything."

Lyon coach Claude Puel was satisfied with the good performance in Hungary and believes the group will be very close between the top three sides.

"I consider De! brecen as a good team - we made that match easy because we have quality and we took it the right way," he said.

"I would have preferred Fiorentina to have lost points or be defeated at home, above all as they were without (top scorer Alberto) Gilardino.

"That shows the quality of that team and our performance against them in the Stade Gerland.

"The result confirms the group will be very close at the end."

Fergie: Segeralah Menikah, Evans

Manchester,-

Mau tahu jawaban Evans?

Mendengar jawaban pemainnya, Fergie pun balas berkomentar.

Insomma, controindicazioni all'affare non sembrano esservi.

Wenger believes Liverpool to be a threat for the title

Despite suffering their second league defeat in three games, manager Arsène Wenger says that rivals Liverpool cannot be discounted from the Premiership title race.

Defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have seen Liverpool notch up as many losses in the league as the whole of last season, and the campaign is only three games old.

And some are even wondering if current champions Manchester United are still the same force as last season, after they themselves fell to a sho! ck defeat against Burnley. Perhaps the champions are not the same without star player Cristiano Ronaldo, who left to join Real Madrid in the summer for a world record £80 million.

Wenger said: "Liverpool had two tricky opponents. Tottenham are on a high at the moment, and when you play Aston Villa at home [at Anfield], you know they can be dangerous on the counter-attack.

"But I do not discount Liverpool. I believe they will still be a threat for the title.

"You can expect [shock defeats] at the start of the season sometimes. Some teams have no history handicap and go into the season fresh like Burnley. At the moment they are in the position Hull were in last year.

"They come up with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of strengths as well - they are good teams. Some top teams are not completely ready to play every game at their best."

Fergie eyeing Hargreaves return

The United boss has targeted a return for the influential midfielder in the UEFA Champions League game against CSKA Moscow on 3rd November.

The England midfielder has been plagued by a serious tendinitis problem in recent seasons and has had to undergo operations on both knees.

He has been rehabilitating in America over the summer but is expected back at United's Carrington training complex on 23rd September.

The club now believe he should be fit enough to play in their last three Champions League Group B games and Hargreaves has been included in the 25-man squad for the elite competition ahead of Zoran Tosic and Ritchie De Laet.

Ferguson said: "The difficulty was around what we should do with Owen Hargreaves, whether or not to put him or Zoran in the squad.

Dilemma
"It was Owen or Zoran or Ritchie de Laet. It was a dilemma. But we came down on the side of Hargreaves because having taken the medical advice we think ! he will be available for the last three Champions League games.

"We came down on the side of Hargreaves because, having taken the medical advice, we think he'll be available for the last three Champions League group stage games.

"He's a versatile player who can perform in so many positions, so he could be a very important player for us at that time of the season. That was the reason.

"It is disappointing for Zoran but there is nothing we can do about it. There have been others left out."

United next play Harry Redknapp's Spurs in the Premier League on Saturday and Ferguson expects a tough battle against a side whom he believes can challenge for a top four spot this season.

Realistic chance
Ferguson said: "They have a realistic chance of breaking into the top four.

"They and Man City have had good starts and those two are ahead of the rest of them at the moment.

"Harry bought Wilson Palac! ios from Wigan and I thought that was a good signing to bring ! that ste el into midfield. They have really started well and there's a good degree of experience in the squad."

Rio Ferdinand could be in contention for his first competitive match of the season in the game, while Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia may start on the bench after a long journey back from international duty in Bolivia, where he scored in a 3-1 win to give his country a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup.

Ferguson added: "Valencia was playing in Bolivia so he'll probably arrive back in November!"

"Just think of a player playing a game in Bolivia on a Thursday morning and expected to be playing at Tottenham on a Saturday, but that's what happens now."

Ashraful ton seals Bangladesh win

First one-day international, Bulawayo:Bangladesh 211-2 (34.3 ovs) bt Zimbabwe 207 (47.5 overs) by eight wickets

Mohammad Ashraful
Ash! raful's unbeaten century guided Bangladesh to victory

Mohammad Ashraful and Tamim Iqbal shared a partnership of 137 to lead Bangladesh to an easy eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

Ashraful hit 103 not out and Iqbal made 63 as the visitors reached their target of 208 with more than 15 overs in hand.

Junaid Siddique was the only other Bangladesh casualty, as Raqibul Hasan joined Ashraful to steer them home.

Mark Vermeulen had earlier posted 92 before being run out as Zimbabwe reached 207 all out from 47.5 overs.

Ashraful smashed 12 fours and two sixes in 103 balls as Bangladesh made 211-2.

"The la! st two years I was captain and I didn't bat that well," said A! shraful, who was replaced as skipper by Mashrafe Mortaza in June.

"Now, I'm playing better and enjoying my cricket. I am more relaxed."

Bangladesh pace bowler Najmul Hossain took 3-29 as Zimbabwe failed to make much out of a batsman-friendly Bulawayo wicket.

Vermeulen put on 48 with Brendan Taylor, who scored 19 before Shakib Al Hasan trapped him lbw to make it 74-3 in the 21st over.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals, with Elton Chigumbura (20) and Charles Coventry (19) the only other Zimbabwean batsmen to get a start.

"We lost too many wickets and should have applied ourselves more," Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya said.

"We needed to keep wickets in hand and attack i! n the middle overs."

Ranieri appointed new Roma coach

Claudio Ranieri
Ranieri's most recent club as manager was Juventus

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri says he is ready to give Roma's players a shock to the system after agreeing a two-year deal to be their new coach.

Ranieri, 57, takes over from Luciano Spalletti, who resigned on Tuesday after Roma lost the first two games of the new Serie A season.

"They certainly need a shock because this team needs to react immediately," said Ranieri.

"Maybe the lads have lost a bit of conviction," he added.

Spalletti took charge of Roma in 2005, winning the Italian Cup and coming second in the League in 2007 and 2008.

But last season was disappointing and they only finished sixth, qualifying for the Europa League, where they have been drawn in the same group as Fulham.

This season they lost their opening league game 3-2 at Genoa, followed by a 3-1 home de! feat by Juventus on Sunday, to leave them bottom of the table.!

Ranieri, who managed Chelsea from 2000 to 2004, was most recently in charge of Juventus, who he took to third in the table in 2008 on their return to Serie A after they were demoted for match-fixing.

But the 57-year-old was sacked in May after a run of seven matches without a win.

West Ham could be selling themself's short

So already Benayoun's gone to Liverpool , Reo-Coker to Villa with fellow team mate Harewood also moving to Villa. Roy carrols off to Rangers for a year, and last but by no means least the big deal Tevez.
So that's all the negatives, now the postive's well at least 1. Bellamy signed a 5 year deal. It still dos'nt counter balance what players West Ham have let go. They only just surrvied by the skin of their teeth and getting away with a fine instead of being docked points. Good luck to Curbishley and his men they may well need it.
