Breakfast headlines
Football:
Orlando Pirates have moved to second in the ABSA Premiership after a 2-0 victory over third placed Sundowns. Log leaders SuperSport beat Bloem Celtic 1-0. Ajax Cape Town are still fifth despite a 1-0 defeat to Wits. Santos are into the top eight after a 2-1 win over Thanda Royal Zulu at Athlone. Chiefs are fourth after a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows.
In the English Premier League, Man United have extended their lead to seven points after a 2-1 win over an impressive Newcastle side. Fourth placed Aston Villa suffered a 2-0 defeat to Man City and sixth placed Everton were held to a goalless draw by Blackburn. Tottenham continued their surge up the table with a 4-0 drubbing of relegation bound Middlesbrough.
In Spain, Barcelona drew 1-all with Real Mallorca to setup a King's Cup final against Athletic Bilbao next Friday.
Sampdoria shocked a ten man Inter 3-0 in an Italian Cup semifinal first leg.
Rugby:
Die Vodacom Stormers afrigter Rassie Erasmus het vier veranderings gemaak vir Saterdag se kragmeeting teen die Bulle op Loftus. AJ Venter sal op slot begin, Nick Koster vervang Sireli Naqelevuki op vleuel, Willem de Waal is in vir Peter Grant en Wicus Blaauw begin in plaas van die beseerde JD Moller. Die Bulle is sonder Bryan Habana, maar Victor Matfield is op die reserwe bank. Stormers hakker, Schalk Brits, se die span is nog steeds positief oor hulle seisoen, ondanks twee nederlae op Nuweland.
Cycling:
Team Barloworld's Robbie Hunter has clinched the first race of the Giro del Capo in Wellington. The second race takes place in Durbanville today. Hunter says it doesn't really matter that the format has changed from a five stage tour to four individual races because of non-compliance with UCI regulations. Based on yesterday's dominance I think it's safe to say Hunter is the favourite to win yet another! Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycletour victory on Sunday.
